Pará Historical and Geographical Institute

In the old street Tomázia Perdigão No. 62, D'aveiro current Sister City, the Old Town district, located at Praça Dom Pedro II, formerly the Palace Square, Constitution Square, and the Independence Square, there is the impressive Solar Viscount and Baron Arary Guajará, seat-of IHGP own.

 

Architectural construction of the first half of the nineteenth century, characterized by neo-classical Luso-Portuguese, served as the residence of the family of Antonio de Lacerda Chermont (Viscount Arary), and subsequently the family of Dominic Anthony Raiol (Baron Guajará) . Dead last in 1912, the building continued as the family estate until, in 1942, through Peter Raiol, son of the Baron, was sold to the City of Belém, in the management of Prof. Abelardo Leon Condurú.The Historical and Geographical Institute of Para (IHGSP) is a scientific and cultural institution located in Belem, Brazil. Its foundation was in May 3, 1900.

 

The Baron of Guajará, Domingos Antonio Raiol, inherited the building by marriage to the niece of Viscount Arari and became, he and his family, the last residents of the manor. The Baron died in the house in 1912, at 82 years of age. In 1942, the then mayor Abelardo Leon CONDURU acquired the building and the heir with him Peter Raiol the furniture and the library. And since 1944 houses the Historical and Geographical Institute of Para.
