A Casa das Onze Janelas in Belem

The Cultural House of Eleven Windows is an integral unit of the Integrated Museums and Memorials of the State Secretariat of Culture of Pará, having appeared in 2002, already a well-defined profile museum, to be a space of diffusion and reflection on the Brazilian contemporary art. Thus, the museum promotes activities concerned with the promotion of cultural exchanges, with the spread of knowledge of art and the artist's inclusion in its exhibition space to discuss holding exhibitions in contemporary art produced, and a place where the artist can dare to their experiments and present the process of his research.

 

The House  is a historic building located on the first street of Belém, Siqueira Mendes, where Belém began. It was built in the 18th century as the residence of Domingos da Costa Bacelar, owner of a sugar plantation. In 1768, the house was acquired by the government of the Grand Para to house the Royal Hospital. The project was adapted by Bolognese architect José Antonio Landi (responsible for other projects in Belém).The building worked as a hospital until 1870. Afterwards, it housed multiple military functions. In 2001, the Government of the State of Para in the Brazilian Army signed an agreement, alienating land from the House of Eleven Windows and the manger of the Fort (which is next door) in the State.

 

The building is part of the architectural and landscape called  Feliz Lusitania (made by Belém Fort, House of Eleven Windows and Church of St. Alexander). The building contains, besides the museum, the 'Boteco of the Eleven, "which, despite its name, is one of the most qualified of restaurants. From the house area you can enjoy a beautiful view of Guajará Bay and the famous Mercado Ver-o-Peso 10601.

 

Hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00am to 6:00pm; Holidays from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

Admission: R$ 2.00. Every Tuesday of the year - free admission.

Gratuity: children up to 7 years, adults aged 60 years, people with special needs, groups and scheduled classes of the school schedule.
