Parque da Residencia in Belem

Park's Residence

Located on the Avenida Governador Magalhaes Barata, the Parque da Residencia has served as the official residence of the state governor since 1934, although governors have actually used this building from 1913 onwards. Currently, the Residence operates as the headquarters for Pará's Secretariat of Culture (SECULT). Many attractions are close by and include the Passagem das Icamiabas, an amphitheatre with regular open-air performances, the Coreto Pavilhao Frederico Rhossard (Bandstand Pavilion), and a host of wild parakeets.

The former official residence of the governors Para is an example of the architectural beauties found in the city of hoses. Erected at the beginning of last century, and installed on land located in the former Independence Avenue, the mansion house is an eclectic style - neo-classical features mixed with other stylistic and decorative elements. A curiosity is the fact that the palace was leased to the State to be used as a residence of the governors Enéas Martins and Lauro Sodré. But, officially, in 1933, the first tenant to live was the federal intervenor Magalhães Barata, when the land was acquired by the state to be the Official Residence of the Governor of Pará Over the years, were added to house some elements such as the extensive fence belonging to the old reservoir Paes de Carvalho, a work 'Art Nouveau' of the British firm Macfarlane Walter, and Frederick Rhossard pavilion (tribute to the journalist and poet Para) of European origin, and that was part of the whole Republic Square. The whole history survived until 1981 when it was listed by the State and off as the official residence of the governor in 1992. In 1995, the core architects of Secult, coordinated by the Secretary of Culture, architect Paulo Chaves Fernandes, work began on the project to restore and revitalize that heritage. It was sponsored by the Government of Pará, via Secult in partnership with the Ministry of Culture / Patronage, Embratel, Banco Real and Agropalma, and became the National Park Estate. The inauguration took place in 1998. In the project, the palace received thorough restoration. We recovered the original architectural lines, as well as pieces of decoration that could withstand the weather, crystal chandeliers, furniture, among others. It was also revitalized the bust "Clair de Lune," petit piece of bronze, which was relegated to the status of old iron deposit in the residential palace. The piece was restored by Luiz Fernando Pessoa and is exposed inside the palace. The coat of arms of the state also embellishes the facade of the Park. Today the palace houses the headquarters of the Secretariat of Culture (Secult), responsible for managing the site. For the garden variety of environments were created, starting with the orchid, the avenue at the entrance Magalhães Barata. Done in partnership with the Association of orchid and the former College of Agricultural Sciences of Pará (FCAP), current Federal Rural University of Amazonia (UFRA), exposes the orchid species in the pan-Amazonian flora, cultivated in the nursery in UFRA created especially for meet the Park. Beside the orchid, the flag is used to Frederick Rhossard book launches, presentation of bands and other similar events. Then there is a space with a fountain and fountain, flanked by banks, the Hall of Waters. Sitting in the bank, a surprise: the statue of Ruy Barata, a dosilustres representatives of poetry and literature, from Pará. The creation and execution was the artist and architect Luiz Fernando Pessoa, giving the place the name Paranatinga Corner, a reference to the surname of a poet. Following the direction of the Alameda Icamiaba, which cuts the park in its entirety, showing details of indigenous designs, we reach the rest of the park, which works for lunch, with the pound international buffet, and dinner with à la carte menu, especially the typical local dishes. Later, another square, this time the square of the train, is located where an old wagon of the late railroad Belém-Bragança. It was restored and turned the Ice Cream Wagon which are served extremely special flavors of fruits such as Amazon cupuaçu murici, soursop and bacuri. Diagonal of the wagon is the amphitheater for outdoor performances. And at the end of the lane, the station Gasometer, old English iron structure, which belonged to the Gas Company of Para is now a theater with capacity for 400 people, which presents musical and performing arts. On the sides of the theater, the public has access to shop for crafts and cultural products such as books and magazines, coffee and Light substation of the Cold. In the vicinity of a local store of relics that make up the history of Para: the old Cadillac's official state government, purchased by Governor Magalhães Barata, in the 50's, the only existing model year in Brazil. Besides representing a beautiful and pleasant place for walks, the Park Estate is part of the rescue of cultural memory Para. It's worth checking out.
