These restaurants offer the normal Brazilian barbecue - churrasco, which is composed of whole cuts of meat which are skewed and barbecued in a “churrasqueira” built of bricks. The meat is grilled and then served at the table, in a service called a rodízio.
Passadores (meat waiters) roam around the restaurant, each handling a specific cut of meat. They arrive at your table with a knife and a skewer and each person can then either decide to take some of the dish or pass. For the inexperienced it can become quite an mind-boggling experience as skewer upon skewer is brought to the table.

The “churrascarias” normally offer, complimentary to the meat, an all-you-can-eat buffet. Normally, the buffet serves salads, rice, beans, and some fish stew. Often, these restaurants also offer pao-de-queijo (similar to biscuit, but with a cheese infused bread. The bread is made of tapioca flour and cheese), and deep fried banana (typical Brazilian treats). They also offer Brazilian desserts, such as pudim de leite (milk pudding), passion fruit mousse, quindim (a sweet treat made of egg yolk, sugar, and coconut), and brigadeiro (made of chocolate, condensed milk, eggs, and sugar). It is certainly worth saving room for dessert, if you can!
In Brazil, there are several “bares”, or “barzinhos”, (pubs, little pubs) where everyone seems to gather for happy hour to have caipirinhas, cocktails, beers and other drinks.
Snacks are common, many are dependent on the local foods, but many are common everywhere in Brazil. Polenta frita (fried polenta), pao-de-queijo (biscuits baked with cheese inside), salami Italiano, fried chicken wings, cod fish balls (deep fried pastry made with wheat flour, egg, and shredded cod fish), various cheeses, and olive platters.

Brazil has soccer tournaments throughout the year, and everybody has their favorite team. It isn't uncommon to see significant numbers of people wearing team jerseys.
Brazilian pubs range from very informal, lower class establishments to very formal, higher end places. Unlike most North American pubs, most of these pubs are wide open to the public with no formal entrance.
