Mariana Historical City

Distant only 12 km from Ouro Preto (11953), Mariana, called the "cradle of Minas Gerais civilization" was the 1st capital, the 1st village, the 1st bishopric and the first city in Minas Gerais. Today is the guardian of an important part of cultural heritage and history of Minas Gerais. Nothing better than walking through its streets to discover the discret charm of this city through its eighteenth-century mansions, each more beautiful than the other.

The house of the Baron of Pontal, for example, enchants all visitors with its beautiful soapstone balconies. The Cathedral and the Church of St. Francisco de Assis have beautiful colonial works of art.

The homemade products are renowned for quality and can be found in the various districts and villages, such as sweets, cheese, sugar, corn, fruit stores and crafts.
