Belo Horizonte Museum of Arts and Crafts

The State Heritage listed MAO - Museu de Artes de Ofícios consists of two buildings and an underground gallery, which form the landscape and the Architectural Station Square, is . It houses a collection of some 1,800 pieces of wood, iron, leather and ceramics. Are tools, equipment and clothing used by workers and artisans of centuries in Brazil from 18 to 20, gathered over 50 years by Flavio Gutierrez in a collection that was donated to form the museum's collection.

 

The building of eclectic style, facing the square Rui Barbosa was the Central Station of Belo Horizonte, the gateway to all the material in the construction of the city arriving by train. In another building, with entrance from the street Sapucaí, was the seat of Mining Network Traffic. Currently, there are two stations on site, a train and a subway. The buildings are connected by two tunnels, forming the galleries. MAO project which is of French Pierre Catel museographer proposes integrating museum / station. Catel also planned a garden-museum, a cafe-restaurant, an events area, restoration laboratory, a technical reserve, shop, auditorium, professional workshops and training rooms.

 

Of the two tunnels that connect the buildings, one was transferred to the MAO, while another is still used by passengers of the subway line. Two of the train platforms, located in the open area between the two buildings were also transferred to the museum for exhibition of large pieces, which will allow passengers on the train and the subway to see a part of the museum in their way to the station.
