Dom Bosco Sanctuary
The Don Bosco is a work of light. Its walls are formed by 80 columns over 15 m, which unite in the high Gothic arches. The structures are 2,200 square feet of stained glass. Most combines 12 shades of blue dotted with white. Inside, the feeling is of being under a starry sky. The architect Claudio Naves complemented the composition with columns rose-colored corners.
Even when the sun goes down and can no longer azure inside the sanctuary, the lighting remains the biggest attraction. In the middle of the ceiling hangs a huge chandelier designed by architect Alvimar Moreira. The numbers surprised: there are 7,400 small pieces of Murano glass, totaling 3,000 pounds, 3.5 meters high and 5 meters in diameter.
Much light helps to highlight details such as the altar, a massive block of pink marble that weighs 10 tons. Behind him, Christ is crucified on a cross of eight meters, carved from a single red cedar log by Gotfredo Tralles, artist of the city of Santa Catarina Treze.
Around the Don Bosco Shrine, also stand out the works of Gianfrancesco Cerri - it is a framework in brass font, acrylic on canvas in the tabernacle and the reliefs in copper at 12 gates of the temple. Carved in marble, they have the dream of St. John Bosco Belchior.
