Bosque Reinhard Maack

The vegetation in the park is unique in Curitiba, with small and medium sized trees that are protected by a canopy of pine trees.  The land the park sits on was originally owned by the Hauer family in the nineteenth centure.  In the park is the trail of adventure which includes sixteen fashioned toys of wood, rope, and tire iron.

The park was opened in 1989 as a tribute to the geologist, cartographer and Dutch biologist Reinhard Maack (1892-1969), who discoverer the Paraná Peak which is the highest point in southern Brazil at 1922 meters tall.  He was also an early advocate of the theory of formation of today's continents, which separated from a original single continent (Pangea), about two hundred million years.
