Bosque de Portugal
This public park is dedicated to those countries who have adopted the Portuguese lanuage: Portugal, Brazil, Sao Tome and Principe, Mozambique, Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau and East Timor. The park has 20,850 square meters of green area with a trail that has a memorial trail which runs through it. Along the trail which runs parallel to the river Tarumã, there are 22 pillars bearing tiles in which there are engraved verses of great poets of the Portuguese language. There are verses of Camões, Gregorio, Camilo Pessoa and other renowned poets of the sixteenth century to the twentieth century.
The inauguration ceremony held on March 19, 1994, was attended by the then President Mario Soares of Portugal, and the then mayor of Curitiba Rafael Greca de Macedo. Originally there were seven nations that were represented by pillars, but with the independence of East Timor, this was an additional pillar added in 2007.
Bosque de Portugal is located in the Jardim Social neighborhood, with access by road Fagundes Varela, and has no predetermined schedule for visitation. There are also several other nearby parks which can be visisted, including Iberê de Matos Park / Bacacheri, Jardim Botanico which has many other touristic activities within the park and Passeio Publico which has a small zoo and aquarium inside a large park.
