Paiol Theatre
The Paiol Theatre is a cultural space and an auditorium for theater and musical shows in the city of Curitiba, capital of Parana State, Brazil. It is a circular building, built in 1874, and previously used by the Brazilian Army as an arsenal of gunpowder and ammunition. After its deactivation, the municipality of Curitiba turned it into a cultural and scenic space, inaugurated as a Theater on December 27, 1971.
The unique features of the building were retained. The old barn was converted into an auditorium for 225 spectators in the arena, in architectural design by Abraham Assad. The inauguration was attended by artists Toquinho and Marília Medalha, Vinicius de Moraes, who christened the space with a shot of whiskey and composed the song in its collective memory honor.
