Parque Nacional de Sao Joaquim
The National Park of San Joaquin is a conservation unit in Brazil and is located in the south, in Santa Catarina state near the town of San Joaquin, with a catchment area within the municipalities of Urubici and Bom Jardim da Serra. It was formed on July 6, 1961 by Decree No. 50,922. The total area of the park is 49,300 hectares. It is administered by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio). In the northeast region of the park are the highest altitudes, and the peak of the Mount Church, 1822 meters. Also, the center of the park, there are areas quite high, with elevations above 1650 meters. This region of the park is named Campos of Santa Barbara. The rocks that form the basement of the park volcanic rocks called basalt, and date back 133 million years.
