Velha Figueira
This 100+ year-old tree in Praça XV de Novembro is honored in the official municipal hymn of Florianopolis.
It is said that the Centennial Figueira was born in 1871 in a small circular garden in front of the Church. In 1891 he was transplanted to the XV de Novembro Square, where it remains today.
The tree on which the verses Ilhéus were inspired, has got several superstitions and charms on them. Its large branches spanning much of the Praça XV de Novembro, and today are supported by metal rods, which preserve the structure of the old tree, and provides great shade for those passing through the Praça XV.
