Festa de Santo Antônio do Pitaguary

A belief is that if you skip the fire you will arrange a wedding at the Feast of St. Anthony's Pitaguary. San Antonio fell into the graces of the people. They created the myth around him of matchmaker, who found husbands for women and vice versa, and saintly miracle, finding lost objects. The saint also won another attribute: gives luck and abundance. To obtain them, the believers take the blessed bread, which has magical and miraculous powers, even being able to keep in good condition for many months: a guarantee of abundance throughout the year. The "Pão Bento de Santo Antonio" is distributed by the churches in the days of St. Anthony. A wonderful landscape. Maracanaú is flooded with visitors to the Feast of St. Anthony's Pitaguary.

Traditionally, the party goes until dawn with Forró, a kind of popular Northeastern Brazilian dance, as well as a type of music which accompanies the dance and typical food. Couples holding hands up and down the mountain with the sun beaming over the wall of the dam. St. Anthony's feast is much love and joy.

20 km away from the capital Fortaleza, Santo Antonio do Pitaguary in Maracanaú, also known as Santo Antonio do Buraco, is a an Indian reservation, which already has several attributes such as the Santo Antonio do Pitaguary Church, the Senzala dos Escravos and the cave of St. Anthony as well which is one of the last places to have the Atlantic Forest in the State of Ceará. Another reference is the Bicentennial Mango-tree where the slaves were whipped and now, under its shadow, on the 12th of June, Pitaguary perform the traditional Toré dance to the community and visitors.
