Igreja do Senhor Bom Jesus dos Aflitos

The Bom Jesus dos Aflitos Church is located in the central square Parangaba, called the Caboclos da Parangaba square. Currently, the district that borders a lake of the same name, was formerly the Poranganba Indian village, founded by Jesuits in the XVI century. By the end of October, 1759, it was then named New Village of Arronches (Vila Nova do Arronches) a name of Portuguese origin.

The devotion of locals to the Good Jesus of the Afflicted comes from afar and has always been very strong. Therefore, still in 1759, it was ordained that the young town of Arronches had a patron, the Bom Jesus dos Aflitos.
 

Currently, the place celebrates with pomp and joy the Feast of the arrival of Mestizos, or the Crown of the Good Jesus of the Afflicted, beginning on the second Sunday of September, with the descent of the crown that goes on pilgrimage to various places only ending on twelfth night, the January 6, by placing the crown on the image of the crucified Christ, in the church of Good Jesus of the Afflicted, which located in the Caboclos da Parangaba square.

The church has traditional plant design of the central nave with two symmetrical towers and similarly although one shelter to another as a clock bell. Its facade is very clean and simple and has few decorations on the railing of the upper windows and arches of the gateways. Its churchyard has no element of prominence, but only one design in Portuguese stone.
