Lago Negro in Gramado

Lago Negro (Black Lake) - Gramado, BrazilInitially it was called the Valley of Bom Retiro. After a fire that ravaged the vast forest in the region, Leopold Rosenfeldt  built a lake in 1953, decorating its banks with trees imported from Germany's Black Forest, hence its name, Black Lake. Its waters are deep and dark green loads, reflecting the high pines alternating with the colorful azaleas in winter and blue hydrangeas in summer. A gravel path surrounds the lake and serves as a hiking trail. The biggest attraction of the lake is swan shaped paddle boats, where tourists have fun paddling all over the lake.

It is located very near the city center. The lake has beautiful walking trails, several parks depending on how you enter the lake and many scenic vantage points.   Don't forget to rent a swan paddle boat!  Watch out though, some of the paddle boats only have paddles on one side, ensuring only one of you is going to be sweating.  Luckily my wife got stuck on that side, so I was able to enjoy the scenery!
