Barra de Cunhaú Beach in Natal

This south coast beach is found near the city of Canguaretama, which is almost 75 km from Natal, but it holds one of the most beautiful beaches along the the south coast of Rio Grande do Norte.  The fishing village of Canguaretama is surrounded by a landscape of salt marshes, coves, beaches and open sea, which includes Barra de Cunhaú Beach.  The beach itself is endowed with a mixture of wild and calm beauty.  The waters are darker here with a green half tone.  The coves all contain warm water, at roughly 26C the whole year and are great for bathing in.   Nearby is the Curimataú River, which has a rich biodiversity and great scenery and easily seen by a boat tour.  The city itself is small, but has several restaurants and inns.  Solimar and Punto Massimo are considered excellent restaurants.  The area is also known for its shrimp farming, which is on the main economic contributors to the State, and a large export.

Within 3km of Barra de Cunhaú Beach is Sibaúma Beach and only slightly further away is Baía Formosa Beach which is slightly further away, at nearly 8km.
