Fundacao Iberê Camargo

The Iberê Camargo Foundation was established in 1995 with the objective of preserving and disseminating the works of the renowned Brazilian painter Ibere Camargo. In addition to letting the public know that he is one of the great masters of art in the twentieth century, the institution seeks to encourage reflection on contemporary artistic production.

Each year, there are exhibitions, workshops, courses, seminars, meetings with artists and various studies on the work of Campbell and Iberê on issues related to contemporary art. The idea is to disseminate not only the artistic and intellectual legacy of Iberê Camargo, but to promote a systematic reflection on the contemporary and artistic.

The Foundation's headquarters was designed by Portuguese architect Alvaro Siza, one of the five most important contemporary architects in the world. The project received the Golden Lion at the Venice Architecture Biennale (2002) and is of special merit of Milan Triennale Design In Brazil. Siza has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Cultural Merit in 2007 and received the RIBA Gold Medal that is one of the most prestigious architecture awards.

The building houses exhibition rooms, lobby, technical resources, research and documentation center, Printmaking Workshop, Workshop in Education Program, auditorium, gift shop, cafeteria, parking and environmental park designed by the Gaia Foundation.

The Camargo Foundation is coordinating the project Iberê Cataloging Iberê Camargo's work, which has done an extensive documentation and research on the artistic and intellectual production of the artist as well as documents that tell of his life and work.

Its Collection is divided into one part and another Art Documentary. The first has more than five thousand works, including drawings, gouaches, prints and paintings, while the latter holds more than 20,000 catalogs, magazines and newspaper clippings, photographs, correspondence, notebooks and arrays. These works are kept in reserve, a technique specifically designed for the safekeeping of all this great stuff.

The Printmaking Workshop that belonged Iberê  Camargo remains active through the Guest Artist Program, which receives names in contemporary art prints used to develop even the German press in which the master worked.

Since the Education Program aims to service the public, Iberê Camargo Foundation is addressed to teachers and students of early childhood, elementary, secondary, higher and adult and youth education (YAE) and to the specialist and the general public.

With guidance from the Education Curator Luis Camnitzer, the program includes the training of mediators, teacher training, publication of teaching materials, visits and activities, mediated practices related to exhibitions, prioritizing the work of Iberê Camargo Foundation headquarters and as objects work, while focusing on modern and contemporary art.
