Saint Peter Theater in Porto Alegre

Located in the heart of the capital, opposite the Cathedral Square and known among the city's ancient buildings, the Theatro São Pedro, preserved in Neoclassical structure, was founded on June 27, 1858.

Over the years, the site staged plays and artistic, social and political state, in addition to storing various vocations in their history and trends, combining the simple to the remarkable.

In 1972, the theater closed its doors for lack of security and poor maintenance. In 1975, after a dense estimate, it is concluded that the site would undergo a reconstruction.

Architecture with hints of Eva Sopher, theater resumed its activities on June 28, 1984. Almost 23 years later was the first reform, fixing problems such as leaks in certain parts of your home, and their openings, and other local administrative access.

Today the culture spreading regionally, nationally and internationally, the Theatro São Pedro in Porto Alegre is a reference to events and performances of dances, plays, music, exhibitions, and other shows.

One of the points that stand out in the theater is a chandelier made ​​of at least 35 thousand pieces of crystal. The liner, which is the bottom fauna and flora of the state, was painted by local artists Charles Anthony Mancuso, Leo Dexheimer, Pliny Bernhardt and Danube Gonçalves.

It also stands the Memorial Theater San Pedro, an exhibition space, whose goal is to restore the journalistic and photographic memory of theater gaucho. The venue features a 165 m² infrastructure distributed in three gallery and exhibition halls. Admission is free.
