Wine is normally had with food, and there are many really very good wines is southern Brazil where the climate is superb for growing the necessary grapes. All of the wines you will enjoy, will be local or South American varieties. This is primarily due to import costs. It is very unlikely you will find any wines from other nations.
While Brazil has a considerable number of vineyards, a large part of them grow table grapes, and only a few produce them for Brazilian wine.
Since much of Brazil is close to the equator, classical grape growing rules of thumb brand most of the country unsuitable for viticulture, due to heat and humidity. Almost all of the wine production of Brazil is centered in the south of the country, far away from the equator, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, which is close to Uruguay and Argentina. In that area, many of the grape growing vineyards are also located in cooler mountains, to a large part in the Serra Gaúcha region.
