Steak House These restaurants have the standard Brazilian barbecue, which is made of entire cuts of meat that are skewed and barbecued in a “churrasqueira” comprised of bricks. Prime rib, tri tip, fillet mignon, shrimp, chicken, pork, lamb, and even pineapple skewed and barbecued to perfection in a brick oven and offered at your table, where the servers cut the meat and serve them on the consumers’ plates. The different cuts of meat remain coming to the customers’ table, where they have the decision to agree to a slice of the cut or reject it. The “churrascarias” commonly offer, additionally to the meat, an all-you-can-eat buffet. Often, the buffet offers salads, rice, beans, and some fish stew. Usually, these houses also offer pao-de-queijo (similar to cheese puffs, a bread made of tapioca flour and cheese), deep fried banana (ordinary Brazilian treats), and baked pineapple - a whole pineapple skewed and wrapped in sugar and cinnamon and barbecued. Hearts of palm, fresh fruits and vegetables are likewise part of the menu.

Restaurants in Brazil are frequently setup to handle lunch time guests rather than the typical dinner time customers. This greatly changes how they serve foods, and how they price their dishes. Many lunch time diners are looking for a very relaxed dining experience, with a healthy and relatively quick meal. Hot buffets offer them this by having numerous hot dishes ready. Pricing is often by weight or an all-you-can-eat model, many places have both options available. Sandwiches are regarded as a snack and not a proper meal! Therefore restaurants commonly serve up hot and healthy dishes for lunch in lieu of the typical North American simple style lunches. Meals are generally served and eaten on premises, but many restaurants also offer take away and food delivery services. Of course the restaurants vary widely in appearance and offerings, including a wide variety of dishes. For Brazilians it is very prevalent to go back home during lunch to have their meal with their families. This isn’t always doable, particularly in the larger cities, so restaurants have taken up the slack and designed a business model around catering to these people. In many of the considerably smaller cities it can be challenging to find a standard sit down and order off the menu style eatery.
