Armacao de Buzios in Rio de Janeiro

Armação dos Búzios or just Búzios, as is universally known, is a municipality in the state of Rio de Janeiro located in the Lakes Region. It makes borders to the west with Cabo Frio, a municipality which became autonomous in 1995. It is located about 165 km from the city of Rio de Janeiro .

It is a peninsula with eight miles long and 23 beaches, getting from one side of Ecuador ocean currents and other ocean currents from the south pole, which means it has both beaches with warm water and cold water. Among the main beaches  there are Geribá, Joao Fernandes, Ferradura, Ferradurinha, Portais, Manguinhos, Ossos de Tartaruga, Tucuns, Brava and Olho de Boi, the latter reserved for the practice of nudism.

The tourism and the local real estate occupation started after Buzios became internationally famous due to the visit of French actress Brigitte Bardot, in 1964. The passion was mutual and  the muse of European cinema baptized the city's seaside promenade, named Orla Bardot, where there is a bronze statue of natural size of its most famous poster girl. Today, the city receives so many tourists from around the world (mostly Argentines) that some call it 'the Brazilian Saint-Tropez'.

The coast of Buzios has beaches for all tastes and styles. In Geribá  surfers reign absolute; whereas Joao Fernandes and Joao Fernandinho are preferred by foreigners. Whoever is searching for tranquility goes to Azedinha, while entire families are attracted to the calmer waters of Ferradura. A quick and enjoyable way to get to see them all is to take a boat trip through the region, including the islands Feia and Rasa, where  one can go diving.

The sophistication has the right address in the city: located at Rua das Pedras. It is there that one can find brand name shops, bars and fine restaurants and many night events.

The Festival Buzios Jazz & Blues, always in July, is one of the major events in the city.
