Forte Marechal Hermes in Macae

Forte Marechal Hermes is located south of the river mouth Macaé
Built in the late nineteenth century, at the point between the beaches and coves of Imbituba and Shells, Macaé, RJ.

It was built in the late nineteenth century by the nascent Republic, on the edge between the beaches and coves of Imbituba and Shells, Macaé, near the site where once stood in the seventeenth century Colonial Fort Santo Antonio de Monte Frio.

The original fort, built from 1613 in the Bay of Shells, opposite the Island of Santana, by order of Captain General of the Province of Cabo Frio, Menelaus of Constantine in the early eighteenth century, was restored and artillery pieces with five By order of Francisco de Castro Morais. Repairs suffered under the government of Viceroy Conde da Cunha (1763-67), starting to count with seven pieces to be disarmed during the Second Empire, 1859, by ministerial determination.
