Built before the city of Salvador itself, which is 1549, the Forte de Santo Antonio da Barra is a fine example of military architecture of sixteenth-century Portuguese. Its prime location at the corner of the bay, where it reveals a beautiful ocean view, the elegance of its layout and the magnificence of its interior spaces the attention of all who went thither. The building is undoubtedly the main attraction of the museum whose collection allows visitors direct contact with the secular country's history through displays of household items, coins, stamps, bottles and war materials that had been submerged for 300 years and eventually surfacing as a result of the first underwater survey of its kind in the history of the country. Objects that allow the public to experience important aspects of everyday life and that of the first Brazilians from other parts of the acquis to the Nautical Museum of Bahia help understanding the presence, importance and significance of the sea and seafaring life in the formation and development of Brazilian society. Forte is in the Farol da Barra, one of the most popular cards of Bahia in the world. The original lighthouse was installed at the fort in the year 1698, the first of all America. Whale oil lamps fed protected by glass that signaled for sailors entering the bay. Successive reforms have transformed the original lighthouse in 1839, 1890 and 1937, when he was finally electrified. http://www.museunauticodabahia.org.br/
