Udo Knoff Ceramics Museum in Salvador

In 1994, the Government of Bahia, through the State Bank, acquired a valuable collection of ceramics German Udo Knoff, inaugurating the 18 May of that year Baneb Museum of Ceramic Tiles and Udo Knoff, single specimen of its kind in Latin America. After the privatization of Banco do Estado da Bahia, the museum has stopped using the name of the banking house.

The collection brings together pieces signed by Udo and others collected by him during years of study and dedication. National tiles stand out, collected the traditional facades of Salvador, and foreign, coming from Portugal, France, Holland, England and Italy, the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries. Also part of the collection tools, machinery and ceramic objects donated by friends, students and other collectors.

Erich Horst Udo Knoff (1912-1994) is author of several scattered works by Salvador and other cities in Bahia, Brazil and abroad. In 1960, assumes the pottery classes at the School of Fine Arts at the Federal University of Bahia, where he remained until 1974. Along with some social care institutions Salvador developed volunteer activities, using his art as a means of therapy and rehabilitation.

The building in which works the Museum acquired in 1992 by IPAC, is an eighteenth century building, with the elements highlighted the conversadeiras, doors and windows framed in ashlar stone.

Activities
Integration Project Museum Udo Knoff Azevedo Fernandes and State College, aiming to revitalize the museum through monthly lectures and guided tours targeted at students of 2nd-degree College, located in Pelourinho. Period: July to December.

Guided tours for students of schools and public and private schools in Salvador.
