Instituto Biologico Museum
The collection of the Biological Institute began in 1927. Initially, the scientific activities of the institution were held in rented houses and Arthur Neiva, the first director, housed a library in a location at Luis Antonio Ave. that, in addition to magazines and books on coffee pests, the creation of the IB paradigm, other books and texts were being added.
Henrique da Rocha Lima, José Reis and several other researchers who were incorporated into the IB had the habit of collecting large quantities of documents. In the late 30's, with the headquarters building under construction, Rocha Lima and other researchers came to the Biological Institute and brought with them all the documentation collected. In 1945 was inaugurated the headquarters building of IB and documents began to be spread over several sections. In 1961, then began the rescue of institutional memory.
New elements were added to the collection and the concern to find a space for such an important heritage was a constant. Fearing that the documents were scattered in laboratories being lost, pleaded to the transfer of some sites for which the collection was assembled. Since 1980, some documents were classified and, in late 2005, the much desired space was granted.
Currently, the collection of the Biological Institute is composed of 180,000 text documents of scientists from the early twentieth century, 60,000 photographs and 70,000 slides in glass and 3,000 documents on architecture, for the Biological Institute is an Art Deco building and has important documents in that the area.

In October 2010, the Center for Memory of the Biological Institute has been certified ISO 9001:2008 for the scope "management of historic documents."
