Ibirapuera Auditorium in São Paulo

Designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer for 50 years, the Ibirapuera Auditorium was built and donated by TIM Celular to the Municipality of São Paulo, was inaugurated in October 2005.

"Music is a language used by all people to overcome barriers and differences. And no people master this language with as much talent as the Brazilian people. The song is part of the Brazilian soul. Therefore TIM invested in the project of architect Oscar Niemeyer to the Ibirapuera. The objective of the TIM, to enable the construction of the Auditorium, was to provide a space to São Paulo with comfort and quality so they can experience music without borders, "said Mario Cesar Pereira de Araujo, president of TIM Brazil.

Work began on February 23, 2003, with the laying of the cornerstone and the building was delivered in December 2004, the company as a gift to the city of São Paulo for its 450 years. The auditorium was built under supervision of the architectural firm of Oscar Niemeyer, who personally accompanied the necessary adjustments to the original design and had a TIM's investment of $ 29 million.

With 4.870m2 of constructed area, the Ibirapuera Auditorium is used for cultural activities compatible with its size and vocation, especially musicals, and make room for the development of new music talent and promote contact between different cultures and musical expressions, in nationally and internationally.

The stage of the Auditorium deserves special attention: a proscenium arch of 28 meters and 15 meters deep. The internal capacity of the auditorium is 800 people. In addition, a door 20 feet at the back of the stage, when opened, allows performances in the outdoor area for about 15 000 people. The Ibirapuera Auditorium in his basement also houses the School Auditorium, which aims to improve the teaching of music to students in public and the ability to access the various modes of learning that running gear of the auditorium can provide, such as: cenotécnica, technical sound and lighting, concert production, among others. Also encourage the presence of young people in the music through specific training programs for audiences

The Auditorium is home to three great works of art: at the main entrance there is a sculpture by Oscar Niemeyer, entitled "Blaze", in the main hall there is a sculpture artist Tomie Ohtake and in the central hall of the School Auditorium for a panel of artistic Luis Vallandro Anthony Keating, 16 meters long and 2.5 meters high, "Essay for Orchestra."
