Basilica Santuario de Nazaré
In 1700, the place where he found the image of the Virgin of Nazareth, 28 cm, the Caboclo José Placido built a hut, soon turned into a center of devotion, which is now the Basilica Shrine of Nazareth. This is one of the most beautiful places of worship in Brazil. It features an all-marble interior where you find the image of Our Lady. Nazareth found by Placido. Its interior features a collection of 23 Mosaics depicting the life of N. Lady of Nazareth and the other the Cirio.
Fronting the Plaza Justo Chermont, a green square located next to the Avenida Governador Magalhães Barata, the Basilica Santuário de Nazaré is worth searching out, not just for its attractive architecture, but for its surprisingly elaborate and ornate interior. Step inside and you will be transported to a world of marble columns, coloured stained-glass windows and detailed wood carvings. Each year in October, the Basilica Santuário de Nazaré becomes central to Belem's spectacular annual Cirio de Nazaré festival, which has become the largest religious celebration in the whole of Brazil.
