Mass of the Rooster and cribs

The Midnight Mass is celebrated in Catholic countries after the Christmas Eve dinner that begins at midnight on December 25 to 24. Your name confirms the legend that at midnight of this day, a rooster would have sung, announcing the coming of the Messiah. Another origin of the phrase is associated with the fact that the Christmas Mass finishing too late "when people came home and the cocks were already singing." Today, because of the importance of the Mass, the pope wishes to pray it, while all of the Advent candles are lit.

After the Mass, families traditionally come home and put the image of baby Jesus in the manger, and only then share a meal and exchange gifts. The latter, incidentally, is related to gifts that the Magi brought to Jesus. Finally, in all Christian religions is generally agreed that the crib is the only symbol of Christmas truly inspired by the Gospels, while St. Francis of Assisi assembled in 1223, playing a straw image of baby Jesus, the Virgin Mary and Joseph with permission of the Pope. Since then, families of different cultures set up to represent the birth scene in miniature.

Brazilian Traditions

Christmas in Brazil is highly characterized by the exchange of gifts between friends and family on the night of Dec. 24. Regardless of the tradition of the chimney of the cold countries, Brazilians simulate the passage of Santa Claus in each home with the delivery of gifts through the front door, usually at midnight, or tree, after spending the night. They also have the habit of giving relatives and colleagues through the Secret Friend. But before the party incorporate the Catholic Protestant symbols of the distribution of gifts, Santa Claus and the tree, the country was marked by a traditional religious festival, with the going to the midnight mass and dinner with the family dinner by the end of the century 18.

Today, typical Brazilian traditions are observed mainly in the supper dishes Dec. 24. In the midst of the feast, a table considerable usually exhibit typical foods that time and is difficult to find a room without dinner with turkey crumbs, tend spiked with cherries and pineapple slices and candied fruit fruitcake. The gastronomic habits reveal a mix of cultures that seem universal, but changes are already very Brazilian. Example is the fusion of Portuguese culture - seen on toast or in codfish cakes - the Italian - represented by panettone and birds as the turkey. In addition to Chester, a bird that became a symbol of the Christmas table with Brazilian and tropical fruits.
