Palace of Liberty
Built in 1897 at the same time the foundation of Belo Horizonte, the Palace regained its characteristics of 20 years. When, for two days, hosted the kings of Belgium, who came to Brazil to lay the foundations of steel mining (the famous Belgo-Mineira).
In an eclectic style, the Palácio da Liberdade is more beautiful inside than out. Now in its main entrance is a ladder "ars nouveau" is a masterpiece. The restoration of the Palace was completed in 2009, sponsored by the Oi Telemar.
Except for the part of the wooden floor, all original material has been imported (in the late nineteenth century Brazil still had to import cement, because the product first appeared only in 1888, in Sorocaba). A visit to the Palace, guided, is free, and also has access to the gardens, which once could only see "belo horizontinos" frestras by bars. The historic buildings in Liberty Square are being turned into museums. The former Secretary of Education (about the same age of the Palace) is a must, because it deals with the minerals.
It is a visit that enriches not only knowledge, but it is as well very pleasant. The EBX (Batista) is the keeper of the museum.
Standards
. The visitor must present identification at the reception and store your belongings (purse, bag) in lockers.
. It is prohibited the consumption of beverages and snacks, use of stiletto shoes, camcorders and cameras inside the building.
. Guided tours for groups and schools need to be scheduled in advance.

| Afonso Pena Avenue Arts and Crafts Fair (market) -
Conceived by a group of artists and art critics, this fair appeared in Liberty Square in 1969. It soon became a meeting point for several generations and attracted the attention of visitors and tourists to the richness and diversity of works exhibited.
The fair pushed the boundaries of the square and moved to the Afonso Pena Avenue in 1991. Today there are about 3,000 exhibitors divided into 17 sectors.
