Barreirinha Park
Barreirinha Park has over 275000 square meters of land, and is considered one of the most beautiful parks in the city. Visitors typically get to enjoy Raucarias, Brazilian peppers, Cinnamon, Mimosa Escrabella (Bracatingas), Yerba Mate trees and many other native species.
For those who haven't tried the Yerba Mate drink, it's well worth searching out an establishment that has them available. Often, you'll see individuals carrying around a thermas of hot water and an unusual cup and metal straw. These are Yerba Mate drinkers. Be forewarned this drink has 3-5 times the caffine of a cup of coffee.
The park was originally created in 1959 but not turned over to the public until 1972. It's frequented by locals, tourists and students and university professors from Botany classes because of it's ability to regulate air quality in the region.
The Horto Municipal, adjacent to the park, is a scientific and educational facility which is responsible for the research and production of vegetable specimens. There are over 200 thousand square meters of vegetation here. Including children's playground, a rustic cabin, country diner, and barbecue grills for the public to use.
Other parks nearby that are worth mentioning as alternatives to the Barreirinha Park, include São Lourenço Parque and Tangua Parque. Both are beautiful have many amentities of their own. They are under 3km to walk to, which should take about 30 minutes on foot.

| São Lourenço Park (park) - In the early 1970's a flood by a dam breaking caused damage to this area which required repairing, and those repairs resulted in the building of this park. The park was inaugurated in 1972 and has had several buildings re-purposed to suite the park.
