Meio Beach

A monument to Lemanjá - The Queen of the Sea is found here at Meio Beach, which lies between the beaches of Artistas Beach (10445) and Forte Beach (10446)  and is therefore called "Meio" or Middle.  Meio Beach has rough seas and is very good for extreme sports like surfing.  The beach is also frequented by day swimmers, but it best to avoid swimming during high tide and only enjoy the waters during low tide.  The beach is composed of primarily darker sand and some rocks. 

The beach is cut by corals; at low tide revealing many natural swimming pools which are great for children.  At high tide, the waves are larger than those at Ponta Negra Beach (10442), and swimming really should be avoided.  

The area is fairly quiet at night, when many people leave the area, but great during the day.  Meio Beach is considered an urban beach, which generally means more locals will visit during the weekends but also means there are always vendors, and restaurants open to sell cold beverages and hot food to those visiting the beach.  There are inexpensive options for lodging and meals in the area, as well as an arts and craft fair which sell locally produced goods.  While visiting be sure to give a huge stop at two prime locations: the Ponta do Morcego (10910) as well as the Ladeira do Sol. (10909)

Praia do Meio is located about 5 minutes from the city of Natal and rough 12 km from Ponta Negra Beach.(10442) Hotels along the beach promenade are cheaper than those of Ponta Negra. (10442) Quality and price vary widely, but you can find comfortable places in this region.

Access to this beach is via the Coastal Highway or Avenida Hermes da Fonseca.
