Opened on September 26, 1897, even before the new capital of Minas Gerais, the Americo Rene Giannetti Municipal Park is the oldest environmental heritage of Belo Horizonte.

Designed in the late nineteenth century by the construction committee charged with planning the new capital of Minas Gerais, the park is located in the hyper, more dense area of the city.

Despite having an area intensively managed, with the majority of existing species introduced after 110 years of its implementation, the park today as a representative ecosystem with large trees and species diversity.

The City Park has several springs that feed three ponds and about 280 species of native and exotic trees and fig trees, breadfruit trees, bald cypress, flamboyant, eucalyptus, sapucaia, and pau pau mulato king.

Refuge for wildlife, the space houses approximately 50 species of birds in hummingbirds, mockingbirds, herons, parakeets, woodpeckers, tanagers, tanagers and other animals such as opossums and monkeys. As entertainment options, the park offers, for free use, toys, fitness equipment, walking track, sports court, trails for skating and tennis court.

Houses, too, with a charge of R$ 1.00, twenty-one electronic toys and carousel, Ferris wheel, Giant Worm, rotor, safari and pogo stick. Here we find the traditional donkeys, photographers and lick lick train. With an area of 182 square meters of extensive vegetation, the park helps to alleviate the climate of the downtown area.

There are also the Francisco Nunes Theater, the Flower Market, the Palace of Arts and an Orchid.

Hours: 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, from Tuesday to Sunday.
