Description: São Paulo Municipal Teatre

Open to the public on September 12, 1911, the Teatro Municipal of São Paulo was begun eight years earlier, in 1903. Designed by Cláudio Rossi and Rossi designed by Domitian, was opened by the opera Hamlet, by Ambroise Thomas, to a crowd of 20,000 people who crowded the Ramos de Azevedo Square, in downtown Sao Paulo. With this, the city began to integrate the script of the big international shows.

The site was designed along the lines of the best theaters in the world to attend the opera - the first art form and entertainment typical of the bourgeoisie, because of the large number of Italians living in São Paulo. Since its inception, two major changes marked the restorations and renovations of space: the first occurred in 1951 with the architect Tito Raucht, responsible for paving the dressing room for expansion and reduction of the boxes, whereas the second restoration took place from 1986 to 1991, led by Historical Heritage Department of the Municipal Culture, restoring the building and implementing structures and more modern equipment.

Today coordinates Municipal schools of music and dance and seeks to develop more and more stable work of their bodies: the Municipal Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Experimental Repertory, City Ballet, the String Quartet, the Coral and Coral Paulistano Lyric.
