The collection has about three thousand and five hundred pieces, mostly personal belongings of the artist, donated by the family after her death in 1955, through her sister Aurora Miranda and widower David Alfred Sebastian. It comprises the collection of clothing, with social scenes and costumes, jewelry, platform shoes, turbans and accessories. Some highlight are the skirt used in her debut show on Broadway, the turban used on her marriage, some complete outfits, she wore day in honor of the "Walk of Fame" and the last show on the eve of her death, the famous "balangandãs" trinkets. The Museum also holds a significant bibliographical and iconographic, original cartoons, scripts of films made in the United States, with notes made by so called "Pequena Notável" (Little Noted), photographs, posters, trophies, music, programs, thanks. In addition to five thousand newspaper and magazine clippings that relate to historic events of the "Ambassador of Samba." The creation of the museum was a response to population and the legion of admirers, especially foreigners, from all over the world, organized in numerous fan clubs, who wanted a space that could perpetuate the memory of the singer, one of the myths of Brazilian popular music. The Carmen Miranda Museum was officially created in 1956 through a decree signed by Francisco Negrao de Lima, Governor of the Federal District. Its inauguration took place only twenty years later, on August 5, 1976, the Governor of Rio de Janeiro Floriano Peixoto Faria Lima. Installed in Flamengo Park, the circular building was designed by architect Affonso Eduardo Reidy, later adapted by the architect Burlemaqui Ulysses. Free admission.
