Lagoa de Guarairas
Description: Lagoa de Guarairas

On reaching the coast of Tibau do Sul, the amazing views of calm waters of Guaraíras Lagoon are visible.   One of the most visited attractions in Natal, this lagoon, which has had pure freshwater in the past has been altered by natural erosion and is now open to the sea.

Besides serving as a route to Malembá Beach or Natal, the lagoon is a significant portion of one of the most important economic activities in the municipality, the "carcinicultura" or shimp farming activities.
Aside from the economic reasons to visit the lagoon and surrounding areas, is the natural fauna and flora that are unique here because of an extensive mangrove area within the lagoon, which is a source of food and also home to many species.

Guaraíras lagoon offers up an amazing amount of tourist activities including long boat rides, canoeing, fishing and even "banana boat" rides, where people are pulled along on a huge inflatable banana which eventually tosses them into the water.    Lots of fun activities for visitors, children and even locals.

In the late afternoon, magic takes over, and everyone presents stops what they're doing to witness the sunset at Guaraíras.  The receding tide waters are bluish, and those of a rising tide become grayish, turning everything into pure gold, reflecting all the intensity of the dying sun.
