At the entrance to Guanabara Bay in the neighborhood of Urca in Rio de Janeiro, you will find Fora Beach, which is where the city of Rio de Janeiro was originally founded.

Entry is granted by the Brazilian Army as the beach sits on military land.   It has fine clear sands and the ocean is calm and tranquil with cold waters which is available for swimming during certain times.  Fora Beach has many beautiful views, especially of the Sugar Loaf.
