Recife lights for the arrival of Christmas Cycle, creating a great spectacle for the eyes and inspiring Recife and visitors to appreciate the spirit of peace of the period. In addition to the lights and colors that adorn the city, the Christmas tree is mounted on barges installed in the river Capibaribe, the cradle of the capital.

During the month of December, in the days before Christmas Eve, each pole, each community will host events celebrating the season with traditional cantatas, kings, and herding cattle, and artistic groups in contemporary music.

The lighting project Christmas Cycle has a special system that enhances the architectural features of the city. The main avenues and squares get Christmas decorations.

One innovation that brings great impact and draws attention during the Christmas Cycle are the projections in the river Capibaribe. Near the Church of Mother God, the Recife City projects images on a water curtain, which rises from the riverbed. A true show of images, lights and music that further enhances the beauty of the place and time with two presentations a day on Thursdays and Fridays, 3 to 4 presentations per day on Saturdays and Sundays from the end of November.

Christmas Parade - The traditional parade takes place by December 17, leaving the Square Maciel Pinheiro. Concentration starts at around 17h, with children and youth pastoral and religious participation. The course includes the Empress Street, New Journal Square, ending in the Courtyard of St. Peter. Band and orchestra accompany the course. Market Street in San Jose and the sidewalks, Christmas is a toilet of the public's call to follow the procession.

Baile do Menino Deus - In the days 23, 24 and December 25, hosts the Ground Zero show that since Christmas is the face of Recife. Universal language uniting rich and scenic and musical elements from popular to classical tells the story of the birth of Jesus with a peculiar set of songs that reflect the popular imagination. In sequence, place a Christmas dance in praise of Jesus' birth.

The decorations of the houses come in late November / early December, but every office and shop, also decorates. Some say that eating dates at Christmas brings good luck. Grapes are the fruit most served.

They open the presents after dinner and the party continues with many gifts and Christmas greeting. The next morning is to prepare for lunch. Many families leave the dinner served all day.
