Apollo Theater

The Center for Training and Research of the Apollo-Hermilo Performing Arts opened in 2000 by the city of Recife in partnership with the Roberto Marinho Foundation, with a structure that comprises the Cine-Teatro Apollo Theater and the Center Hermilo Borba Filho Documentation Osman Lins. The larger goal is to become a reference center of performing arts at the regional, national and international levels.   Accordingly, plans aimed at developing the training and improvement of creation, research, and artistic quality have been put in place.

Three basic guides its policy: documentation, especially through the Documentation Center Osman Lins; training, for the development of activities aimed at professional training and research through courses, workshops, lectures, and readings; production, aimed at promoting the production of theater, through the presentation of performances, films and videos, support of local productions and implementation of experimental projects, and the center itself.

Various partnerships have been developed with both public and private institutions to help ensure the prosperity of the theater.  Partnerships with Alliance Française, the Consulate General of France, Joaquim Nabuco Foundation, the Federal University of Pernambuco, TV University, the Conservatory of Music of Pernambuco, the Brazil Cultural Center Germany, the Foundation of Hermilo Borba Filho, Mangrove TV, Milestone Video, and Warehouse Theatre.
