Gávea Park
Known as City Park or Parque da Gávea covers an area of nearly 500,000 square feet, with access to the neighborhood of Gavea and extends to the Tijuca National Park, incorporating an Environmental Conservation Unit (UCA). The area is characterized in part by dense forest and partly by landscaping that thrives in a wide open space, cut by a small stream running along its path is dammed, forming a lake and an island. Developed in topography, with slopes covered in soft cover, compounds with masses of medium-sized tree, this splendid garden, originally a private estate, the fund has deployed in the highest place, the house where the Historical Museum of the City and that was the summer residence of the Marquis of San Vicente - Jose Antonio Pimenta Bueno built in 1809. In 1939 the property was transferred by the family Guinle the Federal District government for the creation of public park. The Museum was transferred to the office of the property in 1948. The current collection of nearly 20 000 pieces includes the throne of d. John VI, sculptures Mestre Valentim, nineteenth-century paintings, prints Debret, and period furniture toppled and watercolor Interior view of the square of Commerce.
