Monte Serrat Beach

Monte Serrat Beach

Located at the southern tip of the peninsula, where you can enjoy a beautiful sunset framed by the blue waters and some of the 36 islands of the Bay of All Saints. Ponta de Monte Serrat is now known as Ponta Humaitá. This place is the lighthouse and a small Humaitá religious complex formed by the Church and Monastery of Our Lady of Mount Cerra, a remarkable collection of seventeenth century colonial. On the hill stands the Fort of Our Lady of Mont Serrat, built in the seventeenth century and taken on two occasions - in 1624 and 1638 - by the soldiers of the East India Company, which attacked the capital and main port exporter of sugar Brazilian colonial period. The fort houses the Museum of Weapons.

Praia de Monte Serrat must visit for late afternoon. Without sand, the beach does not usually receive Monte Serrat bathers. The strength of Monte Serrat is the panoramic view of the Bay of All Saints, from the tip Humaitá. Lower Town, the Farol da Barra and most of the islands in the bay can be seen from there. The location is so strategic that was chosen, even in the 16th century, to build a fortress. The Fort of Our Lady of Mount Serrat, one of the most representative buildings of military architecture of colonial Brazil, it is worth a visit. The building will soon house a museum of the Army.
