Artes de Belém Museum

Museu de Artes de Belém also houses the Igreja do Santo Alexandre and the Palácio Episcopal (Bishop's Palace), which have both been restored.  Santo Alexandre was Belém's first church, founded by Jesuits in the early 17th century. Be prepared for the brilliant sculptures detail using plaster and local red cedar.

 

The Art Museum of Belém was established since 1991 as a Department of the Cultural Foundation of the City of Bethlehem, which in turn belongs to the Town of Belém in 1994 with the inauguration of Antonio Lemos Palace 10605, it started receiving collections coming respectively from the Municipal Art Gallery and Museum of the City of Belém, from which it originates.

 

The museum has a significant collection of European and Brazilian works, which refer to the heyday of the rubber in the city and a collection of contemporary expansion.  This collection is comprised of a series of works called Iconography Paraense, who portrayed through paintings and photographs, Belém scenes and its inhabitants and also the Amazon environment. It also includes parts of the Brazilian furniture, interior objects and sculptures.


It has exhibition halls, whose names pay homage to artists who have works in the collection or are of recognized value in the arts scene, an auditorium for solemnity, a library specialized in visual arts, museology and related divisions and the Documentation and Conservation of Museography and Educational Action.
 

The MABE also has other exhibition spaces: the Municipal Art Gallery and the Museum of Folk Art, located in the District of Icoaraci.
