Caraça Sanctuary

A true sanctuary transformed into a RPPN (Private Natural Heritage Reserve) protected by federal law. Grand Canyon, is what it means Caraça in Tupi-Guarani, a large and exotic depression located on a hill.

So, feel comfortable and you will see up close what this shrine, in the broadest sense of the word has to offer. They are magical moments through trails, waterfalls, eighteenth century buildings, tanks and pools. It is an intimate encounter with nature and harmonious. And the most spectacular and compelling reason that brought us here was knowing that every night a visitor comes to the hostel premises. The Reserve Caraça received distinguished visitors in the past, as Dom Pedro I and Pedro II, but the most famous, of course, coming from the silent woods, gold is a short-tailed animal. Maned Wolf and Caracas, to dissociate from each other makes no sense. There was the initiative of Father Tobias, perhaps this temple had not taken life again. Some bins began appearing overturned and knocked down, it was suspected of dogs, but the Father Tobias found it very difficult, because dogs do not go up the mountain as often. Started looking and found the "big dog", the beautiful and vulnerable Maned Wolf. Then they started putting a tray of meat at each gate and they amenheciam disturbed. Gradually, the trays were approaching the stairway of the Church, they decided to go with the tray. "The tray came, the priest rose, rose the wolf!" And the show was made! People around the world is giving a show full of adrenaline, but with a lot of respect for animal life!

As Tourism Center, the Shrine of the Caraça receives on average 60,000 visitors per year, of which at least 17,500 are guests in his inn. This makes it, for its relevance and social implications, one of the most important and most visited protected areas of Minas Gerais, in addition to being one of the largest: the Private Reserve of Caraça responds by nearly 51% of private Reserves of the State.
