Casa do Baile in Belo Horizonte

As a space for leisure and entertainment in the evenings Belo Horizonte, Casa do Baile soon became the scene of musical activities and dance, attended by the mining company. The ban on gambling in 1946, resulted in the closure of the Casino, now the Museu de Arte da Pampulha (MAP), reflecting on the nearby House of the Dance, who also was forced to shut down in 1948. From this date, under the administration of City Hall, the space was used for various commercial purposes. In 80 years, worked as an annex of the Pampulha Museum of Art, a restaurant and eventually shut down again. In recognition of its importance to the country's cultural identity, the building received the tipping federal, state and municipal levels.

Part of the Pampulha architectural complex, Casa do Baile was reopened in December 2002, transformed into a Reference Centre for Urbanism, Architecture and Design, connected to the Municipal Foundation of Culture, which, in turn, is connected to the city of Belo Horizonte.


The House receives temporary exhibitions, publications publishes, develops seminars, meetings and other events related to the areas relevant to the purpose of the Center. It has a hall of 255m2, a 53 seat auditorium with multimedia rooms, administrative support, with the island digital document collections available to researchers and the general public.
