Indigenous Peoples Memorial in BrasíliaBuilt in 1987, the Memorial of Indigenous Peoples was designed by Oscar Niemeyer in a spiral, referring to a round hut of the Yanomami Indians. The space has a building area of 2984.08 m2, with main access via a ramp. Aims to show the great diversity and richness of indigenous culture in a dynamic and alive. For this purpose, promotes several events with the presence and participation of indigenous representatives from different regions of the country. In the collection, there are pieces representing various tribes, including copies of the collection Darcy-Berta Galvan-especially the art of feather Vulture Kaapor; Yawalapiti of wooden benches, and Kuikuro Juruna, masks and musical instruments of the Upper Xingu and Amazon . Designed by Oscar Niemeyer in the form of round hut of the Yanomami Indians, the Memorial of Indigenous Peoples was built in 1987 with funding from the Bank of Brazil Foundation, on land donated by West TERRACAP in the Monumental Axis, Brasilia prime location. By its location and architectural importance, before opening as Memorial of Indigenous Peoples, the building was transformed into a museum of modern art and opened with an exhibition of Venezuelan artist Armando Reveron. Distressed over the loss of the building, indigenous leaders, supported by several representatives of Brasilia, including intellectuals, artists and other supporters of the cause, began the long campaign to regain space. The shamans made ​​their "prayers" to protect the site and prevent its operation until the building was re-designated as Indian museum. Open to the public daily, Memorial strives today hold regular exhibitions, events and presentations Indians. The summit schedule is always the Indian Day (April 19), which every year is celebrated with a week of varied activities, with special exhibitions, lectures, presentations and many visits.
