Concha Acústica

Located on the shores of Lake Paranoa in Sports Clubs Sector North (next to the Museu de Arte de Brasília - MAB  10093), is Concha Acústica DF. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer, was officially opened in 1969 and was donated by the Cultural Foundation Terracap of Brasilia, Department of Culture today, aimed at outdoor shows. It was the first major venue in town.

The Acoustic Shell has an area of ​​29,750 square meters, occupying a building area of ​​8435.12 square meters with capacity for 5000 people, with 200 concrete benches, in 30 rows, with capacity for 30 people each. It was built in order to host major outdoor concerts. Its structure consists of three projections of rectangular shapes and a platform configuration trapezional, with a concave circular sector. The project has bold lines and aimed to integrate the architecture with nature.

The opening of Concha Acústica took place at the inauguration of Brasilia with the presentation of the Municipal Ballet of Rio de Janeiro. In 1967 it was performed a concert with Roberto Carlos, Erasmo Carlos and Vanderléia, very popular singers,  attracting over 25,000 people. However, the official inauguration took place only in 1969. During the 70s Concha was little used for artistic events. It stop working in 2001, in September 2003 was refurbished and reopened.
