Historical and Cultural Heritage of Porto Alegre, the Central Market opened in 1869 to house the trade supply of the city. Listed as a cultural object, it has become an icon of the shopping capital of the state.
The market has today 110 establishments, with the following activities:
Butchers, fishmongers and seafood restaurants (macrobiotic dishes, Japanese cuisine, Portuguese cuisine, assorted meats and a buffet), snack bars, pastries, bakeries, fruit (both domestic and imported), vegetables, animal food, seeds, seedlings, regional crafts, chocolate and candies, lottery shops, newsstands, newspapers, flora and articles for gardening, ornamental fish and aquarium products, coffee shop, barber shop, bookstore.
