Parque Nacional do Catimbau in RecifeParque Nacional da Serra Catimbau. Old Catimbau Valley, was established by Decree 913/12 (2002), with 62,300 ha, ha in December 2002 in the state of Pernambuco. The researchers found 30 archaeological sites in Catimbau Valley. Thus, the Catimbau is the second largest archaeological park in Brazil, second only to Sierra Capybara, Piauí. One of the most important archaeological sites is to Alcobaça, located on a rocky cliff-shaped amphitheater. The paintings in this location were made by different ethnic groups of different ages as well, showing the diversity of techniques and style of painting. Inside the park there are several places to visit, including the Rock. It is believed that thousands of years ago where is the Rock was covered by ocean and that the stone was stuck from the erosion caused by wind and rainwater.
