Parque Ecologico de Serra Negra

This important reserve of Atlantic forest has beautiful scenery and very little has been explored. Parque Ecológico de Serra Negra, is situated ten kilometers from the town of Calves and roughly one hundred kilometers from Recife.  The park has several look outs, caves and grottos that form the perfect backdrop for fans of extreme sports or those who are just passionate about nature.   The area is good for trekking through, with many beautiful trails.  There is a trail that leads to the Deda Cave with lush vegetation and landscapes along the entire path leading up to the cave entrance.

The nearby city provides several cultural attractions during Christmas week.  If you're in the area, expect movies, bands playing forró music, and the staging of Passion of Christ.  The programs always start on Christmas Eve, with free entry to all those who wish to attend.

Getting to Parque Ecológico de Serra Negra requires either driving, via BR-232 or taking a bus.   There are two bus companies which service the area, Caruaruense and Borborema which leave Recife every day on the hour from 6:10 am to 7:50 pm.  Either bus line can be caught at the Integrated Passenger Terminal also known as IPT in Recife.

Phone: Caruaruense Bus Information (81) 3452.2500 and Borborema Bus Information (81) 3452.2859.
