Rio Doce Beach in Recife

The region has many piers, where fishermen anchor their small boats when they return with their catch.  One of the piers along Rio Doce Beach has a statue of Iemanjá, or the queen of the ocean.  A religious statue that the fishermen use to bring them good luck.

Rio Doce Beach literally means "Sweet River" in portuguese.  This beach, along with the Casa Caiada Beach are urban beaches in Olinda, which is a densely populated area and both of these beaches are subject to pollution.   Check on the status of the waters before bathing or entering the waters just in case.  The streets along the beach have plenty of bars, and restaurants which are very popular with locals and tourists.  It's a nice place to relax and enjoy the day.
