CCPJ - Former Palace of Justice Cultural Center
Palace of Justice to cultural space. Designed by architect Fernando Sampaio Nereus, the building opened in 1926. Today, it houses a cultural center (CCPJ-RJ) and a museum. The CCPJ Cultural Center of the judiciary of Rio de Janeiro was created in March 2009 and debuted its activities in November 2010 with the reopening of the Old Courthouse, featuring a dramatized reading of The Physicists by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, with a cast made up of magistrates the TJRJ (justices and judges). Staged in the Hall History of the First Court of the Jury, the show made its revivals in May at the launch of Agenda Cultural Palace, sponsored by CCPJ-Rio. During the visit the participants have the chance to meet both the noble historical areas of the palace, and new installations of CCPJ-Rio, as the room's collection of costumes from the Justice Theatre (1999-2011). The Palace was opened in the then Federal District November 6, 1926 in order to accommodate the so-called "Court of Appeal", name given by the 1891 Constitution to the courts of higher instance of the judiciary. In 1937 with the establishment of the Estado Novo, the building has housed the Court of Appeals and was the subject of substantial reforms general painting, changing flooring, installation of domestic and decorative sculptures in marble and bronze chandeliers, stained glass art and pictorial panels, and new furniture to the Plenary of the Court. New name of "Court" came with the Constitution of 1946 and remained even after the change of the federal capital to Brasilia in 1960. In 1975 with the merger of the states of Guanabara and Rio de Janeiro, the building became the seat of the Court of Appeals of the State of Rio de Janeiro, later called II Court of Appeals, and finally in 1985, Court of Criminal Appeals the State of Rio de Janeiro (TACRIM). Even with the demise of the Courts of Appeals of the State, in 1997, remained in the palace the structure necessary for the operation of the first grand jury, which only became disabled in 2008 when construction began reform and restoration of the building.
